Community Service
Community Service is a cornerstone of the International School of Myanmar.
Together we are committed to building relationships with the local
community, orphanages, schools and organizations. Our goal is to find ways
of playing an active role in promoting the well being of others through
hands-on interaction. Several programs involving education, advocacy, and
awareness are growing in this student-run teacher-guided program. We
believe that when we put our efforts, knowledge, talents, and skills
towards a common goal of helping, we can truly make a difference! For more
information about ISM's thriving Community Service program, please

Many students choose to become involved in the ISM microloans program. This
group’s accomplishments have had wide reaching results throughout the local
community and Myanmar. Based on the philosophy and economic principles of
Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Microloans Program of the International Students of
Myanmar (MLPISM) helps individuals, organizations, and small businesses
make small scale capital investments and repay loans with minimal interest.

Some students choose to intern with local non-governmental agencies such as
New Heritage Orphanage, Save the Children, Myanmar Egress, Kid's Life, Mary
Chapman School of Deaf, local Yangon schools, and the Home for the Aged.
The student-run ISM Global Issues Network coordinates and promotes
community service efforts with other international schools in Yangon and
East Asia. The Environment Club promotes recycling, environmental
awareness, and water and sanitation projects.
