Each department at ISM has carefully selected the critical knowledge, skills, and understandings that all students should acquire within each course or grade level and by the time of graduation. Teachers reference these standards to ensure that each and every student is on track to achieve ISM's expected schoolwide learning results (ESLRs).
Each subject area (Math, Science, etc.) typically has strands which describe the major elements of the subject. Each strand has a set of standards which describe the understandings, knowledge and skills to be demonstrated by students by the time they graduate from high school. These tend to be few in number and quite broad in scope.
Each standard is then broken down into several benchmarks. These are the signposts which help teachers clearly define each unit's learning goals and assess student progress.
