Here’s what some of our current faculty say about working at ISM and living in Yangon!
I joined ISM with the reasonable assumption of a community focused on service and connection. My expectations have been far surpassed! The amazing number of effective community service clubs and opportunities, both in school and in the greater Yangon area; the cohesive ISM student body, collectively focused on their shared and individual success; and the social graciousness that abounds everywhere in Myanmar’s people have made our tenure here a joy!
Jackie Bennett, AP Teacher
(Joined with her husband August 2016)
Aside from the fact that I have the opportunity to interact with the founder of ISM on a daily basis and knowing its history from herself, I am taking part in teaching the students of Myanmar who will be the future leaders of this country. The students as well as the parents hold teachers in high regard, and the local teachers and staff are a tremendous and solid support system to the foreign teachers. It is like having a family away from home. Yangon itself is a great city. Simple yet complex. Yet whenever my family and I need a break, we hop on a plane go. Flying out to nearby countries is just easy.
Jemay San Juan, Grade 1 Teacher
(Joined ISM with her husband and son, August 2010)
Founded by a native education pioneer, ISM’s unique history sets it apart from other international schools. The impressive diversity of teachers and support staff is a testament to the commitment of a global-minded leadership. For students, ISM offers a challenging curriculum led by a dedicated team of professionals. As a new teacher, my transition into ISM has been seamless, thanks to a collegial, supportive community and joyful students. Endowed with a rich history and gracious citizens, Yangon is South East Asia’s hidden gem. My time here will be well spent indeed.
