I am eager and excited to meet everyone connected to the International School of Myanmar’s Elementary School division and to get the 2018-19 school year underway. This will be my 32nd year as an educator and 22nd as a school administrator with stints in the United States, Italy, South Africa, and Syria.
For teachers, the purpose of this handbook is to provide all of us with a clear understanding of our professional expectations, school structures and processes, and performance guidelines so we can work cordially, collaboratively, and efficiently in supporting all of our students and each other.
For students and their parents, the handbook helps them better understand the various school procedures and guidelines that have been established to ensure that our students have productive and enjoyable experiences while attending ISM.
In addition, this handbook needs to be an interactive document as we all have a responsibility in reflecting upon the school structures and finding constructive ways to improve them. The scope and depth of the current handbook also demonstrates that ISM has been reflective in its practices and has adequately paved the way for new members of its school community like me.
