WORKING IN ISM
Here’s what some of our current faculty say about working at ISM and living in Yangon!
Working at ISM has been a truly rewarding experience. The Middle School is well-organized, and the staff are incredibly welcoming—building strong relationships with both colleagues and students happens naturally. The students’ fluency in English makes teaching smooth and engaging. Living in Yangon is peaceful, with everything from restaurants and sports facilities to shopping for clothes and groceries just a short walk or ride away from our comfortable apartments. Getting around is safe and simple, with reliable transport easily booked through local apps.

Since joining ISM in 2023, I have felt both professionally inspired and personally fulfilled. As a Physical Education Specialist, I am grateful for the opportunity to nurture students’ confidence, resilience, and love for fitness whether in the swimming pool, on the sports field, or in the classroom. The school’s open-minded, collaborative, and inclusive spirit allows me to innovate in my teaching, while the warmth and support of the ISM community makes it feel more like family than just a workplace. Living in Yangon has been equally enriched with the vibrant culture, welcoming people, and unique lifestyle have made my journey here deeply rewarding. For me, ISM is not only a place to teach, but also a place to grow, belong, and truly make a difference. It has been a deeply humbling and overwhelming experience to be welcomed in the land of Buddha.

Having recently arrived in Yangon I am struck by the friendliness of the Myanmarian people. The city is full of hidden treasures to discover, an unassuming set of stairs or street can lead to an amazing restaurant or a set of vibrant market stalls. Within this context the ISM school community works hard each day. If you are looking for a place that aims to put students first, while asking its faculty to give of their best retaining a sense of humour and collegiality then ISM could be a great fit for you.

My teaching experience here at ISM has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. Teaching students from diverse cultures not only allowed me to share knowledge but also to learn from their unique perspectives. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow as both a teacher and a person. My family and I deeply appreciate this experience—it has given us a chance to embrace a new environment, meet wonderful people, and create lasting memories here in Yangon, Myanmar. We will always treasure this journey.

It has been a pleasure serving the ISM community of students and parents in Yangon at the ISM Elementary School over the 14 years here. As a teacher in the primary grades, it has been very rewarding to see students go through the grade levels and graduate. ISM has evolved with the times and has challenged students to be the best they can be. I look forward to following the progress of students here at ISM. There will always be fond memories over the years to take forward. Go Dragons!

Every day I feel valued as a teacher, every smile reminds me I belong. Students show respect, colleagues offer support, and together we create a family of learning. This is not just a school—it is an inspiring community of hearts.
